During my time as an art director at Heine/Lenz/Zizka, I had the opportunity to be part of the team that developed the wayfinding system of the Futurium. It is the three dimensional extension of the Futurium corporate design and it is based on the custom Futurium typeface.
Designed by Richter Musikowski in collaboration with landscape architect JUCA the Futurium is located just a stone's throw away from the Bundestag in the heart of Berlin. Our ambition was to design a non-distructive guidance system, that wouldn't disrupt the architectural spaces.
The simple idea – the system shouldn't be a fancy add-on of the building, but rather should look and feel like a part of the structure. Following this concept, all wayfinding elements had to emerge out of the architecture itself and follow the already existing intuitive guidance given by the room layout.
Consequently the used material had to be of a natural appearance that would blend in with the present materiality.

The same grid that was applied to develope the Futurium Type was also used to design the icon system.
